All Bodies, All Shapes: One-Size Kimonos That Maximize Movement

Lighter than air, yet cozy enough to keep you warm on a chilly morning, our kimonos are a dreamy transitional piece to wear any time of the year. Loose and flowing, they are made to flatter all body types, providing the perfect layer from spring to fall. While our one-size kimonos come in multiple lengths and colorways, there’s one thing that they all share: their ability to make you feel comfy and confident.

Knitted by Hand, With Love

Our kimonos are made by hand in our atelier in Ecuador. Using a technique that involves knitting different colors together to create a luxe, layered effect, the hardworking women at our studio create timeless pieces that are soft to the touch. Not only does our technique enhance the visual dynamism of the garment, but it allows us to integrate color theory into every kimono by blending hues that make you happy. No matter who you are, our kimonos aim to please!

History of the Kimono

Traditional Japanese kimonos have been around for centuries in one form or another, first becoming popular during the Heian period (794-1192). The word kimono means “wearing thing,” which doesn’t reveal the true nature of this garment, but perhaps provides a bit of insight as to how versatile it can be. Across all levels of society, these robes were worn by both men and women for everything from daily activities to formal occasions. However, the kimonos worn by the upper classes were made from finer materials, with brighter colors and more intricate designs. During the Edo period (1603-1868), they were elevated to a precious art form.

Today, kimono-style robes are popular all over the world for their timeless silhouettes and practical longer lengths. While our knitted kimonos aren’t as complex as traditional Japanese versions, they retain some of the key characteristics, namely that they are long and flowing with flared sleeves and a tie at the waist. Multiculturalism and fashion history continue to be a strong influence on our modern creations.

Tips For Styling Your Kimono

Kimonos are infinitely versatile, serving up effortless glamor even when worn with shorts and a tee. If you need some inspiration on how to wear yours, here are a few ideas to try.

1. Matching Set: Our Celeste Kimono and Bonita Kimono both have matching pants. These sets are effortlessly stylish and cozy as can be!

2. Pair with Denim: Mixing hard and soft, structured and free-flowing, denim is the yang to a kimono’s yin. Wear your favorite pair of Levi’s with our colorful Cleo Kimono, or style your kimono with jean shorts and cowboy boots for a trendy take.

3. Use as a Swim Coverup: We love using our kimonos as swim coverups in the summer. They’re super easy to take on and off while providing just the right amount of coverage.
